I'll post a longer weekend update sometime tomorrow but in the meantime, he's some pictures from Saturday morning when Ted ran the Raleigh Rocks Half Marathon. He did 13 miles in about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Katherine and I were there to cheer him on at the finish line. We practiced our cheering in the car on the way over and Miss K proudly stated to every passerby as we walked to the finish line that "We're gon' cheer Daddy!" She got all excited when he ran by and then happiness quickly turned to tears when Daddy didn't stop right where we were, she didn't realize that he had to keep going and cross the finish line first!

Turtle Pumpkin Pie
A little lunchtime post today. First off, I have to comment on the absolute delish lunch I am enjoying, courtesy of Ted. Curried chicken with rice and zucchini....yummm! As I've mentioned before, Ted does the majority of the cooking in our house. There's no other way to put it, he's better at it than me. He has the knack of being able to go over to the pantry and take a little of this, a little of that and viola! a wonderful meal. You don't want to know what happens when I try that, it's not horrible but it's not wonderful either. Plus, Ted enjoys finding new recipes. I have my staples that I can make well and I tend to stick to those. I may have a Ph.D. but I'll be honest, recipes overwhelm me. I'll stick to cleaning up after the meal.
Since the Ted does the cooking, he also is the primary grocery shopper. Katherine and I usually end up wandering down the aisles behind him ("Can we get this Dad, can we please?"). He is better at visualizing a week's worth of meals and pulling a shopping list together. I am super slow at the supermarket and I tend to come home with a bunch of "extras". Or I'll be fixated on the fact that we need paper towels or something and I'll forget everything else that we need.
I think I like "the idea" of cooking, fancy stuff from Williams-Sonoma and all that. We get a couple of recipe magazines (Taste of Home and Cooking for 2) which I love to look at, especially since they include pictures of every recipe (yes, I need to see the picture first). When it comes to the actual execution of those recipes, not so much, I'll leave that to Ted for the most part.
The other night I was looking at the latest Taste of Home which had all kinds of recipes for Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Lots of good eats. Then, I happened upon this one (I think I would substitute peanuts for the pecans). I don't know how many pumpkin pie lovers there are out there but I do know of at least one kindred spirit who is reading this right now and going "Oh yeah!"...my cousin Alyson. Ask her about the Thanksgiving (or Christmas?) dinner in which someone forgot (for shame!) about the pumpkin pie. At the leftover dinner the next night (which in our family is also Margarita Night), there was Aly and I down at Stop & Shop buying our pumpkin pie, attempting to unthaw it in a jiffy, and then shoving spoonfuls of it (covered in cool whip of course) into our mouths. Don't come between us and our Pumpkin Pie.
Last year, I was sick on Thanksgiving so the thought of eating pumpkin pie (or anything for that matter) was not a pleasant one. Maybe I'll attempt this tasty little treat this year.

Colors, Colors...
I'm still playing around with fonts and colors, this could take a while. More than likely I'll change the color on a pretty constant basis until I find something I'm pleased with. Then again I could change it based on the seasons, holidays, birthdays...the possibilities are endless.
Ted has also signed on as an author as well. Among other things, he'll be posting information about his runs. His big goal is to run the City of Oaks (that's Raleigh!) Marathon in November. I wish I had the stamina to join him but long distance running is just not my thing. Right before I became pregnant with Kate, Ted and I ran a 10K race in Cary. I enjoyed the challenge and I felt really proud of myself when it was over (and boy was I in good shape!) but I also knew that I had reached my limit in terms of distance running. So instead, Ms K. and I will be there to cheer him on!
