The world keeps running at a fevered pitch around here. Friday was my day off, so to speak. I began at 6:40am with 3 Post It notes full of “to dos”. There was no way they were getting accomplished with a 4 year old and 4 month old in tow, so off to daycare they went. Let’s put it this way… I didn’t get my shower in until 4pm, right before I dashed back out of the house to pick up the kids. But that list got done.
Between work and home I feel like there is always at least 5 things I should be doing simultaneously. Just call me the Energizer Bunny. It doesn’t help that Teddy has not been sleeping through the night lately, thanks to his first experiences with post nasal drip. Things will calm down eventually, they have to. But for right now, as you can see my posting has been sporadic.
However, there was some fun this weekend…Katherine and I busted out her Disney Princesses Slip ‘n’ Slide. I, of course, had to show her how it’s done. My back informed me Saturday night not to do that ever again…wow. Katherine was quite able to figure it out but she still had a great time running around on the thing.
The pictures below are from our grocery shopping trip Sunday morning. The sign on her cart says “customer in training.” She was thrilled to have a shopping cart just like Daddy.

A weekend of celebrations
As Ted’s dad pointed out…its hard work being a granddaughter.
After months of travel back and forth to Papas and Grams’ houses, starting just before Teddy was born and ending at approximately 3:30 yesterday afternoon when we pulled into our driveway from the MA to NC drive, Katherine is back for the long haul. I’ll give her a few weeks before she declares “I want to go to Papa and Gram’s” because she enjoyed every minute of it. In fact, we barely got a goodbye during this last trip when she headed out the door with Papa and Gram Meagher a few days ahead of us. What’s not to enjoy when you are the center of attention for weeks at a time? Somebody’s gotta do it.
This latest trip was a big one with celebrations for both of the kids. Katherine left town as a three year old and returned as a four year old. That’s right my baby girl turned four this past Saturday. F.O.U.R. The toddler is gone; she’s a full fledged preschooler. We’re only one year away from kindergarten. How did this happen?
No matter to Katherine, as far as she was concerned there was some celebrating to do…which meant presents. She was kind enough to meet everyone at the door and offer to take their present off their hands…and just as bummed when I told her that she had to wait until everyone got there before she could open them (yes, I am becoming that mother, just wait until we start working on thank you cards). I am sure this seemed like an eternity. Oh, but the scooter! We had that waiting for her first thing in the morning and she ran right over to it and hopped on. In fact, that was her mode of transportation to get anywhere, inside or out, for the next two days. Walking is highly overrated.
Sunday was Teddy’s big day. He was baptized by my father’s cousin (who also baptized me as an infant, married Ted and me and baptized Katherine). The little man was as good as gold for it too, hardly let out a peep in church. We won’t talk about what he was working on at the other end. Unfortunately for him though, his big day (and first trip to Papa and Gram Meagher’s house!) coincided with the onset of some major teething. Poor thing is just dripping in drool and chewing whatever he can get his hands on. But being the good little baby that he is, he seems to be doing it with smile…most of the time.
Summer is very quickly coming to a close, we’re all settling back into the routine. I’ve blogged before on how I enjoy this time of year and I’m definitely looking forward to the season change this time around. Major reason being that a major project is wrapping up at work, one that is taking up just about all of my time. Everyone involved is looking forward to seeing the report finished and sent off to the feds next month. Of course, once that’s done I have to turn my chair around and face everything that has been pushed aside for the past few months but even that pile doesn’t seem as bad as the monumental task that this project was. Trust me; there’ll be some much deserved celebrating around the office on October 1st. Then here’s the kicker, it’s an evaluation that runs on a three year cycle. Meaning after we hand in the report we’ll be right back to the drawing board at year one. But for at least one day (maybe two) we’ll bask in the glory of a job well done.
I’m hoping to catch up on a few non-work things in the coming weeks, one of them being the list of blog posts and photo albums. I feel like I hardly mentioned this trip beforehand and then…surprise!...we’re there and back. Tons of great pictures to upload…I will get to them, I promise.

Why should the kids have all the fun?
This website came to my attention through some facebook comments I was reading. I guess we should be equal opportunity around here.
Crap at My Parent's House
The parents may be complaining about this the stuff their kids have ruined but, hey, it was all crap anyways.
Enjoy. And yes it's going on the blogroll.

Tidbits
Here's those tidbits:
- I heard back from the Religious Education Director at church. Pre-K and Kindergarten CCD (do they even call it that anymore?) is not required but I will need to track down Katherine's baptismal certificate before I register her for first grade CCD. Luckily all of this was accomplished via email, so I avoided any guilt inducing conversation.
- Teddy had his 4 month check up and the doctor declared "He is doingeverything he should be doing and then some." Here's the stats:
- Length: 25.25 in (75%)
- Weight: 16lbs, 2oz. (75%)
- Head: 41.5 cm (30%)
- He is also rolling all the way over now. He woke up last night for a bottle and when I put him back down he promptly rolled over on his tummy and fell sound asleep. Now, I'll be honest, with all that "back to sleep" information out there this made me nervous and kept me up for a little bit. Should I roll him back over? I ultimately decided to leave him because now there's nothing I can do if he decides to roll himself over in the middle of the night while we're all asleep.
- We also have a cereal eater. We started about a week and a half ago. Of course the first few days involved me placing the cereal in his mouth and him pushing it back out but I think he's got it now. In fact we've had a few evenings of the little man fussing at me because I was not shoveling it in fast enough. We'll go another week or so and then introduce some vegetables.
- We're gearing up for the big trip to Massachusetts next week. Katherine will actually be leaving this weekend, Papa and Gram are coming early to pick her up. Ted, Teddy and myself will head up after work on Wednesday.
- For the first time Katherine told me last night that she didn't need me to lay with her at bedtime. She instead went to bed with ALL, and I mean all of her stuffed animals. She was asleep within minutes. Now I guess I should be sad that we're at another milestone but honestly, I was just plain tickled. Does this mean I've now taken back a good 20 minutes each evening???? Almost, she asked me to lay with her for a bit tonight but only for about 5 minutes. I don't know how she can be comfortable laying in the middle of all of them but if all those animals give her a sense of security, so be it.
- The July photo album...as usual...I'm working on it.
