I’m back from being unplugged for a bit over Christmas. We had a great holiday and I was actually a bit sad to be taking the tree and decorations down this week. The kids (especially Teddy) loved the decorations. Surprisingly BOTH kids were into Santa this year. But once I was halfway through the cleanup it became less and the end of Christmas and more about cleaning and organizing to start the New Year right. There are lots of pictures to upload, stories of favorite gifts to share but since it is New Year’s Eve why not focus on closing one year out and beginning a New Year fresh! This year was full of milestones and accomplishments for me and the fam:
- Katherine graduated from preschool and started kindergarten. Ted and I (mostly me) survived the transition. I don’t think there was any transitioning on Miss K’s part, she jumped right in to the experience and hasn’t looked back since.
- And speaking of experiences, Katherine played on her first sports team. While soccer doesn’t seem to be a good fit for her right now (despite the amount of natural talent she seemed to show) we were both proud of her for sticking out the whole season and learning that once you commit to something, you see it through to the end.
- Teddy turned one, started walking and then climbing and hasn’t looked back since. Sleeping, well, that’s another story. We’re on what I like to call “Operation SANIYOB” around here: Sleep All Night In Your Own Bed. That’ll be a topic for an upcoming post. It has been a challenging year watching his little personality come out but he still remains a loveable little boy at his core.
- Ted and I ran a half marathon together. Granted, Ted has run a few of these before but it was my first and wow, what a great accomplishment it was for me. It has officially turned me into a runner, whether or not I believe it.
- With a goal of learning some new skills and giving me a social outlet to meet some new people I successfully became a Pampered Chef consultant. I haven’t blogged about it because I was sure each month would be my last. However, I’ve managed to maintain a level of consistency and have some fun in the process. And hey, a few extra bucks here and there don’t hurt either! Again, a topic for another upcoming post but here’s hoping for a successful year to come.
- Seemed small at the time but we also FINALLY finished our kitchen renovation begun when Katherine turned one (that’s 2007, in case you’re wondering) with the installation of the hardwood floors and in the last two days, completely redoing the half bath (surprise on that one!).
So what does the New Year hold? I can’t speak for the other members of the family but I have a few goals of my own:
- Learn how to use Pinterest. And LinkedIn. And Google +. And any other social media type thing that has been invented but is too complicated for my little technological mind. I’ve been on Pinterest a handful of time and seriously all it does is frustrate me. It can’t be that complicated, it just can’t be. While we’re at it, let’s through in fully utilizing all those features on my iPhone.
- Run another half marathon. Yes, I’m a glutton for punishment. But overall I have to say that I enjoyed the training experience and the run went well the first time around. Plus I found that I felt great and was more productive when I was on the training schedule. This race I’ll be running with my cousin Alyson, I’ll make the official announcement once we’re all signed up and everything.
- Start Teddy’s first year scrapbook. I’m not behind in this; I don’t think I started Katherine’s until she was almost 3. But it’s time to at least start gathering my materials. I think I have a design plan, slightly different that Katherine’s, in which I documented major events. For Teddy I am going to do a double page spread for each month, with highlight “boxes” for major events. That means minimum 24 pages to do and I’m sure I’ll add pages as I go.
- Maintain my Pampered Chef business for the year (again, topic for another post).
That’s it for now, I think it might be best to keep things small and obtainable for the year (see Operation SANIYOB above). Plus I’ll have more of a sense of accomplishment than if I laid out a huge laundry list of things.
It’s a lock that Ted and I will not be up until midnight, I’ll ring in 2012 snug as a bug in my bed.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
