Weekend Update

I started this post last night with the hopes of finishing it after the kids had gone to bed. But the tornado sighting was a bit too much for this hormonal post partum person so I decided to call it a night instead. One of our local news stations has a gallery of viewer photos of the thing. The first picture is noteworthy because it was taken right near our house, probably about the same time I was looking out our guest room window. For those familiar with where we live, thar's the little white farm house on Debnam Rd., facing east toward our neighborhood. Other photos are in and around Eastern Wake County and considering how scary that thing looked, it's amazing it didn't cause any major damage. I'm not sure if it ever touched down for any length of time.

Here's the rest of the story...

All the Papas and Grams have gone home. It's time for us to form our own routines as a newly minted family of four. I can't begin to say how helpful having our families around over the past month has been. It helped make the last few weeks of my pregnancy easier and allowed me plenty of rest right after having the baby. We didn't have this much help here when Katherine was born and it definitely made a difference this time around. I know Katherine loved spending so much time with her grandparents, she definitely went through withdrawl this weekend. In fact she asked me a couple of times whether Papa and Gram were coming back. It will be a month before she sees all of them again...a trip to visit Ted's family in WV and OH at the beginning of June and a visit from my parents at the end of June, including a solo visit to Massachusetts for Katherine.
In the meantime, we'll get back to K's regular routine. She went to school this morning, Monday is Show and Tell day and that's always a big hit. We let her bring whatever she wants, as long as it fits in her cubbie, and it's always interesting to see what she picks out. Many times it's the same thing that she brought in last week to Show and Tell and we have to kind of coax her into bringing in something new. Two weeks ago, I happened to arrive to pick her up during show and tell, her turn in particular. She had brought in a McDonald's Happy Meal toy (Dragon from movie How to Train a Dragon) and do you know the ooo's and ahhh's that filled the room might have caused one to think she was showing off some long lost treasure. This crowd is easy to please. She brought in her soccer ball from the Easter Bunny today.

This past weekend we paid a visit to the Children's Museum in Rocky Mount. We are members of Marbles Kids Museum in downtown Raleigh, which K loves but we thought it might be nice to check out something different. While it was nowhere near the caliber of Marbles, Katherine had a blast. I think the highlight for all of us was the Segway demonstration. We all got a turn at taking it for a spin, even Miss K:
She clearly enjoyed the ride. This will probably fuel her recent requests for a scooter. At a mere $5,000 a pop, wouldn't that make a great gift from Santa? Ha! We also finally got the kite in the air this weekend (I fixed the rip with some packing tape).
Teddy is waking up a bit. He'll have a few wide eyed hours in the morning and then again in the evening. Which has reminded me that there's not a whole lot for him to do at this age, just sit in the swing or bouncy seat (or someone's arms) and check the place out. He's probably contimplating his next meal during this time because dude is getting hungier. We're just about solidly in the 4oz bottle range and this morning after polishing off a bottle he was still fussy. After making sure all of the gas and poop was out of him I thought...hmmmm, could he still be a bit hungry??? Sure enough I made a few more ounces and the kid happily helped himself to a few more sips. I didn't think his stomach could hold much more at this stage but it hasn't come back up yet. This makes me wonder about his one month weigh in next week, at the rate we're going it's anyone's guess as to how much he'll have gained by then. My babies are strivers in this area.

I'm working on uploading a bunch of new pictures to the photo sight today, in the April album. And speaking of photos, picture day was a smashing success, I cannot wait to get them back. The photographer got pics of both kids individually as well as a few of them together. My dad was taking outakes, check out their mini photo session:

Not that I'm biased but don't they look adorable?

I love the reclining Buddah pose. We'll have to dig our pics from Thailand, but it's nearly the same, minus the snazzy outfit.
