Theodore S. Coberly

We received the news yesterday evening that Brigadier General Theodore Simpson Coberly, father to Theodore Richard Coberly, grandfather to Theodore Hamilton Coberly and great grandfather to Theodore Jacob Coberly passed away Saturday morning.

I found Ted's grandfather to be one of the kindest men I've ever met.  Always a warm hello, always wanting to hear what you were up to and the most gentle smile to boot.  He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Heaven has definitely gained a new angel who has more than already earned his wings.

A small memorial service will be held Friday in Cincinnati, Ohio followed by burial at a later date with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetary.

Is this the weekend?

The daily sheet at daycare today had a note that Teddy had taken two "steps" today.  Tonight he took one very wobbly one.  He also stood let go and stood on his own for more than a few seconds. This might be the weekend.  Believe me there will be fresh batteries in the camera tomorrow morning.  Its funny because Katherine was 14 months before she walked on her own.  We all knew she could do it, she just wasn't willing to let go.  So by that age, when she did finally walk, she took off.  I think Teddy will a bit more of a wobbly start if he decides now is the time.  Of course, if you asked me this two days ago I would have told you that it appears he is following in the path of his big sister.  Ms. Mary in the infant room would prefer he crawl for just a little bit longer, she doesn't want to lose her Teddy to the toddler room right at his first birthday.  I have to admit when she said it this morning I felt a little sad, we're approaching that point already?

Teddy also pointed for the first time yesterday morning.  I'm not sure he knew what he was pointing at but just the fact that he can do it means our little boy is going to get more demanding in declaring his wants in the very near future.

So what is Miss Katherine up to?  Lot of tears.  She's going through a phase where the least little disturbance will bring them on.  In the mornings she's crying because she doesn't want to go to school, in the afternoons she's crying because she doesn't want to go home and leave whatever activity she's in the middle of.  Today there were tears because we told her that, no, we were not going to stop at Wal-mart to buy gummi bears.  Being spoken to in anything other than slightly harried voice opens the floodgates.  Sometimes I can't help but think, my God child, is it really all that bad?  But at the same time I know that getting mad at her will just upset her more and bring on even bigger tears.  So we're going to go for a whole lot of positive reinforcement this weekend.

She mentioned tonight that one of the other kids at school calls her a cry baby (hence she refused to give this little girl a hug because she is mean to her and she only hugs friends who are nice to her...I have no problem with that), which caused me to make a mental note to talk to her teacher on Monday to see what degree she's exhibiting the same behavior there.  I know she's four and this can be normal but I do feel like it has ratcheted up a bit in the past few weeks or so.  I'd like to get through this phase as quick as possible.

A space of her own

When I realized that we had at least two weeks to wait between the mishap with Empire and our actual floor install I decided to move Katherine's table and chairs set up to her room instead of moving it back into the kitchen (and presumably back out in a few weeks). Truthfully she hadn't been using it much, especially since Teddy became mobile, since most activities need to occur out of his reach.  So her "buh-fly" table had become more of a storage place for various art supplies.  Moving it up to her room would give her a place to use it without the interruption of her little brother.  Now it is in use just about every day. Most evenings we will hear a request to "come upstairs and color with me?"  There have been a few tea parties here and there but coloring by far is the activity of choice.  She loves the fact that if she wants some privacy, meaning she doesn't want Teddy to interrupt her, she can just shut her door and color in peace.  A big sister needs that.

Before and After

I definitely owe you all some more pictures, we're still putting the place back together which means cleaning a thing layer of dust off of everything.  We love them.  They actually did turn out a bit darker than our existing floors but it still looks awesome, so much so that I can't wait to get our dining room floors refinished to look all shiny and new (which will probably have to wait until next year's tax return).  Here's a small taste now.

Before:

And after (I think it's time for some chair cushions, don't you agree?):

And he's off!

Getting closer to full fledged walking every day.
Of course, it would help if you could actually see the video.  When I publish and then view the blog, the video dissappears.  Please let me know what you are seeing on your end!

Morning Joe

Why does coffee taste better in this type of cup? It's the same old coffee I always make, why would a $5 travel mug from Wally World (Walmart) that looks like a Starbucks cup make a difference? I am a marketer's dream come true.
