Waiting for my big sister to arrive. I'm wearing the Pooh hat that she wore in the hospital when she was born.

The Bunny Came!

Check it out:

And just like last year he left footprints:

I thought I'd be in the hospital and miss this.

The Labor Story Begins...almost

So here I am, Holy Saturday, 39 weeks pregnant. We were SURE on Thursday night we were having a baby. I had gone to the doctor's that afternoon and found out I was 3cm dilated. While I know this means nothing in terms of imminent labor, it was positive news as far as I was concerned. It meant that things were moving, that this baby would not stay in me forever and hey, I was 30% of the way to 10 cm. I had a few contractions on the way home but I chalked it up to Braxton Hicks. Around dinner time though they start getting closer together. Withing an hour they were a good five minutes apart, not incredibly strong but certainly breath pausers and they felt different than the ones I've been having all week. We decided to call the doctor; who said we could head in to the hospital if we wanted to get checked. The contractions continued at the 5 min pace all the way in to the hospital. The nurse checked me and determined that I hadn't dilated anymore since my appointment and the doctor suggested I walk around to see if we could get things going a bit more. So Ted and I paced the halls for a good hour which resulted in contractions every 90 seconds. Another check...still 3cm. They had me lay on my left side for the next hour, contractions got stronger and even more regular...but still 3cm. Then I turned over to my right side...and the contractions slowed down considerably. At this point the doctor gave me three options: 1. Take a sleeping pill to relax me, go home and see what happens. 2. Take a sleeping pill, stay there for a few more hours and see what happens. 3. She would break my water and they would start inducing me. Though option 3 was on the table (and honestly it was tempting) I could tell that both my doctor and the nurse that was taking care of me were not enthusiastic about this one. They didn't have to say a thing, you could see it on their faces what they felt was the best option. Plus I knew (and the doctor confirmed) that the induction carried with it a higher risk of ending up with a C-section, something I want to avoid as much as possible. So the best route was to go home, rest, and let nature take its course for a few more days. To say that I was frustrated, dissappointed and felt a little foolish is an understatement. But there we were, one Ambien later, on our way home at 1 am.

Katherine arrived (with Papa and Gram in tow) on Friday afternoon and that beaming little face was the best pick me up you could ask for. She came running in the house and announced her presence..."Mommee, Daddee, I'm HOME!" She gave us a huge hug. It's amazing how a week apart made me notice just how much of a sweet, smart and articulate little girl we have. I feel like she grew and changed just in one week. She's having a great weekend, thanks to some gorgeous weather. The bunny is all set to arrive tonight and I'm quite excited to see her reaction tomorrow morning.

The waiting game continues. The nurse made me feel much better by telling me that the same thing happened to her with her second child. And two days later that child was born. As she said, my body will do it, it just needs some more time. There's no telling whether it's going to be tonight, tomorrow or another two days. And I know that this baby can't stay in forever but it sure is frustrating to have day after day of contractions that seem to go nowhere. So far the plan is that both Papa and Gram will stay for the weekend and Gram will stick around this week. Katherine will probably go to daycare at least a few days this week, even for just a partial day. We all agreed that while she's having a great time being entertained by all of us you can tell she needs to spend some time with her friends after more than a week away. The next few weeks are going to be busy (and maybe a bit unsettling for her) so I think some routine will help smooth the transition.

We'll let you know as soon as the next chapter in this saga unfolds...
